Technical Tours

Behind the scenes. Local innovators in action. The beauty of Vancouver.

Pioneers and leaders in the hydrogen and fuel cell industry were visited on this full-day side-event, guided by members of the Invest Vancouver team.

The Technical Tours started at the Vancouver Convention Centre and proceeded by coach to four different companies, plus a stop for a delicious lunch along the way. After a fun and informative day, each tour concluded at the hy-fcell Canada Welcome Reception.

This side-event was curated by the hy-fcell Canada team. Specific tour stops were communicated to participants upon arrival.

Kenworth Class 8 FCEV

Leveraging the success from the ZANZEFF "Shore to Store" pilot program, the Kenworth and Toyota collaboration is taking the next step, with a production intent hydrogen fuel cell class 8 tractor. Kenworth integrated Toyota’s latest advancements in hydrogen fuel cell technology into its flagship T680 on-highway truck. The T680 FCEV has a range of up to 450 miles, giving sustainable fleets a new option for regional applications. The T680 FCEV stores the majority of its energy onboard as compressed hydrogen gas, allowing for smaller batteries and making it an ideal solution for weight sensitive operators.

MéridaLabs at UBC

Transforming common urban assets into an integrated Smart Hydrogen Energy District. This city-scale testbed is an innovative research platform that will advance the evolution of future urban infrastructure: from a collection of passive, distinct assets into an interconnectedness of people, energy and information technologies, built environment, devices and products, enabling breakthroughs in renewable energy penetration, sector decarbonization, and new business models for cities and utilities.

Toyota Mirai

Introducing the 2023 Toyota Mirai. The 2nd generation of Toyota’s revolutionary hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle brings more to life than ever before. More style. More space. More intelligent and intuitive technology. And a more emotional and engaging ride. With a range of up to 647 KM on a single tank of hydrogen, Mirai is ready to carry you into the future, while emitting only water in passing. Zero emissions never looked so good.

Greenlight Innovation

Making the tools required to test and commercialize fuel cells and electrolysers. We have been the global leader in testing solutions for the hydrogen industry since 1992, supplying test rigs to the world’s leading universities, government labs, start-ups and multi-national organizations.

Having built the first retail hydrogen station network in Canada, HTEC is continuously expanding the infrastructure to make Hydrogen one of the most accessible and convenient clean fuel options, enabling the deployment and widespread adoption of hydrogen-electric transportation.

One of the largest testing and research labs in North America, Powertech is home to a broad range of scientists, engineers, and technical specialists from around the world. Our cross-departmental teams investigate, diagnose and solve complex problems within a variety of markets with highly technical specialization, and to exceptional standards. We provide specialized testing and investigation services to support electrical utilities’ capital assets: generation, transmission and distribution, OEMs, automotive manufacturers, government and research organizations.

Developing and marketing ion-exchange membrane and polymer solutions for clean technology solutions including fuel cells, hydrogen production, and a range of energy storage applications. After more than five decades of stagnation in materials, our products now enable product developers and integrators to optimize their product performance, improve durability, eliminate toxic components, increase recyclability, and accelerate down the cost curve earlier than anticipated.
